Chapter 2

Listen to the Story

The park is very big. There is a blue lake and a small forest. The forest has many tall trees and long walking trails. Maya likes the view from the café window.

Tuesday is a cloudy day. There are no customers in the café, so Maya walks to the window. She looks at the small forest behind the lake. The trees are tall and dark. There are long walking trails under the trees.

Suddenly, Maya sees a man. He is wearing a long, grey coat. He is standing near the big tree at the edge of the forest. He does not move. He looks at the café for a long time. Maya feels a little nervous.

“Eric, look!” Maya whispers. Eric walks to the window. He looks at the forest, but the man is not there. “There is nobody there, Maya,” Eric says.

Maya looks again. The man is gone, but she sees something shiny on the ground near the tree. Is it a key? Is it a coin? Maya wants to go into the forest, but the clouds are dark and it is time to close the café.
