Chapter 8

Listen to the Story

It is Tuesday morning, and the air is cool. Maya and Eric are at the café early to prepare for the day. Yesterday was a very difficult day for the siblings. There was a big storm in Willow Park, and the sky was dark all day. In the evening, the storm became stronger. The streets were empty. The trees near the café were shaking in the wind. The wind was very loud, and the rain was heavy. Because of the dangerous weather, the café was closed.

Maya and Eric were at home yesterday. Maya was worried about the café and the small forest. She thought about the tall trees and the walking trails. "Were the trees safe in the wind?" she wondered. Eric was at his house. He was not worried. He was busy in the kitchen making new recipes for the week.

Today, the sun is bright again, but the ground is very wet. There are many branches and leaves on the grass near the lake. Maya looks out the window at the big oak tree. She thinks about the man in the grey coat. Was he outside in the storm? Was he cold?

Now, the café is open. Maya puts fresh flowers on the tables, and Eric makes the first pot of coffee. They are happy to be back at work.
