Chapter 4
Listen to the Story
It is Monday evening, and the café is quiet. The customers are at home. Maya wants to close the front door, but she has a problem.
“Eric!” she calls. “I cannot find the keys to the café!”
Eric comes from the kitchen. “Are they on the counter?” he asks.
Maya looks on the counter, but she only sees a menu and a cup. “No, they are not there,” she says.
She looks under a chair. She looks in her pockets. She looks next to the flowers.
“Maybe they are behind the coffee machine?” Eric says.
He looks behind the machine, but the keys are not there.
Suddenly, Maya looks at the window. The shiny object from the forest is now on the windowsill outside. It is a small, old silver key.
“Is that my key?” Maya whispers.
She opens the window and takes the key. It is cold. She looks at the forest. The man in the grey coat is standing behind a tree. He is watching her. Maya is very quiet. Is it her key, or is it his?
